"Good all-around choice for capping shamblers from any given distance. Equipped with a laser sight for easier targeting, a bayonet for close quarter kills and a powershot modification to deal with tougher enemies" -Dead Nation description
True to it's description, the Rifle is a very effective weapon at all ranges. With a solid rate of fire, power and magazine size, this weapon will be the players go-to choice for a majority of the game. Unique to this weapon is the mentioned Charge Shot, which allows extra damage to be inflicted upon being fully charged, which can be noticed by the audio cue and the brightening and thickening of the laser sight.
Rifles are effective against almost any enemy. Fully upgraded the Charge Shot can kill a Mouth, Jumper and Bombie in one hit at low difficulty, adding one shot respectively as the difficulty goes higher. The unlimited ammunition it carries at low difficulty is a remarkable feature, allowing the player to conserve ammo for other weapons in specific situations.
The rifle is automatically equipped with a Laser at the start of the game and costs between $100,000 and $180,000 to fully upgrade. At later chapters the Rifle may have it's effectiveness pale around Chapter IV, with the Shotgun or SMG appearing to be better choices.
